The Vegas Golden Knights return home Tuesday night to face the Buffalo Sabres after completing their longest road trip of the season Saturday New York Rangers T-Shirts Authentic , culminating with a much-needed win against the Philadelphia Flyers.Vegas (2-4-0) suffered losses against Buffalo, Washington and Pittsburgh on the trip, but a stirring 1-0 win over the Flyers puts the Golden Knights in the right frame of mind for their rematch with the Sabres, who are 3-2-0 after opening their West coast swing Saturday night with a 3-0 win over the Arizona Coyotes. The Sabres began the season with a 2-2 homestand, including a 4-2 win over Vegas on Oct. 8 behind two goals by captain Jack Eichel. Buffalo will play five games out west in 10 days. The Golden Knights just finished a five-game trip that spanned seven days.Article continues below ...“It wasn’t our best road trip, but 2-3 is better than 1-4, so those are valuable points going back west,” said Vegas forward Cody Eakin, who scored the lone goal Saturday late in the third period.Veteran goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury recorded 26 saves against the Flyers in his first shutout of the season. The victory kept the Golden Knights from a fourth straight loss, which never occurred last year in the regular season of their magical inaugural run in the NHL.“It’s been a tough beginning to the season,” Fleury told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “I think our play has been improving throughout the road trip. I don’t know New York Rangers Hoodies Authentic , nobody likes to lose, and we had to finish on a good note.”The difficult road trip is similar to what the Golden Knights experienced last season. The Knights had only three points out of six road games between October and November in 2017. This year’s longest trip had four points in five games. The Golden Knights rebounded from last year’s early struggle on the road by winning six of their next seven games. How will they fare this time around? They have an opportunity to make up some points with the next five games at the T-Mobile Arena.“Just forget about the losses and build off this win,” forward Ryan Carpenter told the Review-Journal after the long road trip. “All season we try to just take it one day at a time and when you lose three in a row, it’s never a good feeling, especially after having higher expectations this year. But just off confidence, go home, get some rest and be ready for the next game.”Vegas’ defense allowed 14 goals in the first four games of the trip before blanking Philadelphia. The Knights had only eight goals in the five games. They remain without Alex Tuch (lower-body injury) and the suspended Nate Schmidt. Paul Stastny (lower-body) and Deryk Engelland (arm) were injured on the trip. “We feel good leaving the road trip now,” Vegas coach Gerard Gallant said after Saturday’s game. “It was a tough trip. We’re going back home for a bunch of games and it’s going to be a long flight home but it’s going to be a good flight. We’re 2-4 and we’re battling back.”Buffalo started its road trip in promising fashion with the win over Arizona, which included the first career goal of 18-year-old defenseman Rasmus Dahlin with less than three minutes into the game when he buried a loose puck in the crease.Sabres coach Phil Housley said Dahlin’s teammates were enthusiastic over the goal. Reporters noted that the celebrating Sabres could easily be heard outside the dressing room.“They were really glad,” Dahlin said on NHL.com. “That makes me glad, too. We have a good chemistry on the team. We’re a good team.” DETROIT (AP) — Auston Matthews heard the short list of NHL greats he joined by scoring nine times in the first five games of the season.Alex Ovechkin New York Rangers Hats Authentic , Patrick Marleau, Mario Lemieux and Mike Bossy are the only other players in league history to pull off the feat.“Nice,” Matthews said after scoring twice for a league-leading nine goals to help Toronto beat Detroit 5-3 Thursday night.Matthews is the third player in franchise history to score in the first five games of a season.“He had a fast start last year, too, unfortunately he got injured,” Toronto coach Mike Babcock said. “He’s a big man. He’s really worked hard on his body. He’s worked hard on his skating and all parts of his game. With and without the puck, he’s better.”Morgan Rielly had a goal and an assist, giving him 12 points to surpass Bobby Orr’s strong start during the 1973-74 season. Among defensemen, Rielly trails only Harry Cameron, who had 15 points in the Toronto Arenas’ first five games of the 1917-18 season.“I’m not going to address personal stuff,” Rielly said. “I think it’s more important to move on.”Nick Jensen gave the Red Wings a 1-0 lead midway through the first period and scored a second goal midway through the third to pull them within a goal.“It’s never as sweet when you get the goals but you don’t get the win Custom New York Rangers Jerseys ,” he said.Soon after Jensen’s second goal, Matthews took advantage of a power play by scoring his second goal of the game.Detroit pulled within a goal again when a review determined Dylan Larkin scored with 6:04 left in the game. The Red Wings pulled Jimmy Howard to add an extra skater, but Ron Hainsey scored an empty-net goal to seal the win.“I didn’t like the third,” said Babcock, a former Detroit coach. “We didn’t take care of the puck as good and we didn’t keep our foot on the gas.”Frederik Andersen made 26 saves and Mitch Marner had a goal for the Maple Leafs.Howard had 30 stops for the rebuilding Red Wings, who have lost their first four games for the first time since the 1980.“Bits and pieces of the game we did some of the good things, but it wasn’t enough done right,” Detroit defenseman Niklas Kronwall said.John Tavares, the top prize in free agency last summer, had four assists for the Atlantic Division-leading Maple Leafs, winners of three straight.“It’s great for the all the guys who are doing some scoring right now www.officialsenators.com ,” Babcock said. “It makes you feel good. In the end, though, it’s about winning. It doesn’t really matter who does the scoring as long as you find a way to win. It’s an exciting time for our team, but we’ve got to get a lot better.”NOTES: Matthews joined Sweeney Schriner (1944-45) and Corb Denneny (1921-22) in team history as the three players who scored in each of its first five games in a season. … The Red Wings announced before the game they will retire Hall of Famer Red Kelly’s No. 4 jersey on Feb. 1, 2019, when they host Toronto. Kelly played in Detroit from 1947-60 and for the Maple Leafs from 1960-67. Toronto retired his jersey two years ago. … Jensen has scored three of the six goals in his career against Toronto. The defenseman did not score in 81 games last season and had four the previous season as a rookie.UP NEXTMaple Leafs: Play at Washington on Saturday night.Red Wings: Play at Boston on Saturday.
